    Founder Factories

    FOUNDER FACTORIES · THE RESEARCH

How the world’s best organizations create founders.

Some organizations do more than hire talented people. They repeatedly create founders, builders, innovation leaders, and people who create new value from within the system.

Founder Factories is Eric Koester’s research into the conditions that help ambitious people turn purpose into meaningful projects, build the relationships that move those projects forward, and create the next generation of leaders.

    The question behind the research

Why do some companies, universities, and communities consistently develop people who create new possibilities—while others struggle to move beyond ideas, programs, and good intentions?

The answer is not simply a charismatic founder, a better brainstorming session, or a larger innovation budget. It is the ability for people throughout the organization to act like founders, owners, and creators. It is the environment: the projects people are invited to own, the work they are able to demonstrate, the collaborators they can reach, and the moments when someone gives them a chance to move.

A working model of organizational creative capacity

    • Meaningful projects: people have real work that connects purpose to action.
    • Visible demonstrations: ideas become something others can see, experience, and contribute to.
    • Collaborative relationships: ambitious people can find mentors, sponsors, peers, and partners.
    • Permission to experiment: teams can test possibilities before certainty arrives.
    • Pathways to leadership: projects become inflection points where people earn trust and greater responsibility.

From creative capacity to Design Your Inflection Point

An ambitious organization does not ask people to be more motivated in the abstract. It builds the conditions that make ambition useful: meaningful work, visible progress, collaboration, and repeated opportunities to create what comes next.

This research informs Eric’s keynotes, innovation workshops, leadership programs, and mentorship work with organizations.

    Research in progress

Founder Factories is an evolving research project. The first work examines how organizations train leaders, create traction for innovation, and turn ambitious people into builders. New essays, cases, rankings, and tools will be added here as the research develops.
